The Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is the amount of money the government perceives a family can contribute to their student's educational expenses for a particular year. It is an estimate, NOT the amount a family is expected to pay.

The EFC is calculated using information that you will provide on the FAFSA and a formula established by law. A family's income, assets, benefits, size, and the number of children attending college are all considered in calculating an EFC.

If you have not completed the FAFSA, various EFC estimators are available on the web. A good resource can be found at EducationQuest.
